Overview of Learning - What are we learning in FS1?

Please see below our overview of learning. As always, we constantly follow the children's interests and needs which means this plan is subject to change. We love to hear about the children's interests at home so if you feel there is a particular topic that would motivate their learning please let us know!

This plan is also displayed in class on the noticeboard above the carpet. This plan is broken down further into more detailed weekly plans which are also displayed above the carpet.

Phonics

The older children have now started their phonics sessions:

  • We are following the Letters and Sounds programme and focusing on phases 1 and 2. A link to an online version of this document can be found below.

  • We also use the Jolly Phonics songs to help us remember the sounds. Click below to view the video on YouTube. We guarantee the songs will get in your head!

  • Visit the Phonics Play website (link below) to play phonics games and find out more about phonics.

What to expect, when?

Below is a link to a really useful online document called What to expect, when? It provides guidance to your child's learning and development in the early years foundation stage (0-5 years) and offers ideas and tips as to how you can help your child’s learning and development. The booklet divides the first five years into six age brackets and please remember that every child grows and develops at their own pace. If you have any concerns about your child's learning and development or would like a paper copy of the document please speak to Miss McGarry

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

We're Going on a Bear Hunt has become one of our favourite stories in Nursery which we frequently re-read. The children love to join in with the rhymes and actions. See below for a You Tube video of the story.
