Welcome to the Year 2 class page. This is where you'll be able to find out exactly what's happening in our class. We're excited to see what this year has in store!
Class Teachers: Mrs. J. Pyne & Miss. N. Thomason
Teaching Assistants: Mrs. A. Rigby, Miss S. Hughes & Miss E. Topping
Mighty Zulu Nation
We were extremely lucky to welcome the Might Zulu Nation Theatre Company on Friday 29th June. We thoroughly enjoyed showcases and worshops of traditional African songs and dances. All of us in Year 2 LOVED it! All the staff got into the spirit and performed with Key Stage 1 for parents at the end of the day.
Bog Baby Update...
The Bog Baby has returned safely to Year 2. Mr Dodd found him the other day near the woods, he heard something giggling and when he followed the noise it lead him to the Bog Baby!
However as a class we have decided to set the Bog Baby free and return it into the wild where it belongs. We have enjoyed it being part of our class and we will miss it lots! We hope it might pop in for a visit sometime or it might even end up near where you live...
What fantastic creations! All of Year 2 were blown away with every single habitat that came into school! The Bog Baby was very lucky to have so much choice on where to live. He was utterly spoilt for choice! You should all be so proud of your creation, it is clear a lot of thought and hard work went in every single habitat! All of Year 2 want to say WELL DONE!
Hopefully the Bog Baby will return safely so it can test out some of these fabulous creations!
ONE BLUE LUMPY BOG BABY.
A FRIENDLY AND SILLY CREATURE.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED!
Bog Baby the EXPLORER...
Miss Thomason was in such a rush to leave on the last day of half term that she forgot to take the Bog Baby with her! Luckily Mr Dodd came in everyday to check if it was okay and kept putting fresh leaves and water in its box. However, nearly everyday he came in the Bog Baby would be in a different part of the school. So we have decided that it is definitely an explorer!
Sadly the Bog Baby is currently missing. We have searched high and low for it and we cannot find it anywhere in or around the school. We have created some missing poster pictures so please keep your eyes peeled if you see a small blue creature!
A letter arrived...
We sent out a radio announcement to the North West of England asking for help to identify this funny looking creature. A few days later we recieved something in the post... A LETTER! It was from Chrissy, she explained how she had found a very similar looking creature in Bluebell Woods, she sent a book along with the letter and said we needed to read it as it would help us look after our Bog Baby!
A new addition to Year 2
Well we received a new addition to Year 2 just before the holidays... A Bog Baby! We have truly cared for it and even created instructions on how to look after it. It is a very kind and gentle creature and we all hope it is here to stay for a long time.
Royal Wedding Tea Party
Year 2 would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Year 6 for inviting us to their Royal Wedding Tea Party. If you look through the pictures I am sure you can see that every single member of Year 2 enjoyed the food and drink and all the different activities and games, especially creating our own wedding dress.
We still can't believe that Prince Harry and Megan Markle actually turned up!
Thank you Year 6!
A Mysterious Package...
On Wednesday Year 2 received a mysterious package. The box had a very odd looking creature inside of it and it was found in Forest School by Mrs Bradley who decided that Year 2 are responsible enough to figure out what to do with it. After a lot of discussion and sharing ideas we have decided to write a radio announcement to ask the wonderful people of Warrington to help us identify this creature to make sure we look after it correctly. Year 2 were certainly shocked by the arrival of this creature but they were definitely excited by the prospect of having a new member of the class!
We hope that we can get this creature identified quickly so we know exactly what to do! If you have any ideas as to what it might be, please let Year 2 know!
Mission Impossible... Mission Grammar! - 9th May 2018
This afternoon Year 2 decided to challenge themselves with their Grammar skills and understanding. Various challenges were set up around the classroom for them to solve. However Year 2 rose to the challenges and worked extremely hard all afternoon. Well done!
Our focus in RE this half term is the Church.
On Friday Year 2 explored all the special features that you would find in a Church such as; the Font, the Altar and the Lectern. The children were fascinated by all of this and had lots of questions for Mrs Rigby.
Tuesday 8th May - Maths Fun
Year 2 thought we should take the learning outside today whilst the weather is still beautiful... so we did.
We have just started to explore position and direction in Maths so we decided to blindfold each other and direct our friends along a path.
Year 2 were fantastic at remembering mathematical words such as; clockwise, anti-clockwise, whole turn, half a turn and a quarter turn.
Thursday 3rd May - Maths Practical Afternoon
Today we explored various aspects of maths through a hands on approach. Year 2 had lots of various challenges to solve using different equipment such as: time, shapes, measure, operations and position and direction. Every member of Year 2 enjoyed all the problem solving activities and fully immersed themselves in the challenges.
We all had lots of fun and we will definitely be doing this more often!
Well done Year 2, you will all be fantastic Mathematicians!
13th April - Becoming the Crayons
We were all saddened to hear about the crayons quitting, so we decided to "step into their crayon wrappers". We explored their feelings, thoughts and emotions as to why they felt the way they did. A fantastic effort by everyone in Year 2, we definitely have some great actors and actresses in Year 2.
11th April 2018
Who has been writing to Year 2? Year 2 received lots of letters today. The children were very excited and curious and couldn't wait to read the letters to each other to find out who the mysterious person behind the letters was. Well we were all in shock when we found out that all the crayons in Year 2 have decided to quit... (to be continued...)
10th April 2018
Money Money Money. Year 2 have been exploring more about measure, this time we are learning about money. Using their problem solving skills they discovered a variety of ways to make different amounts of money using a range of coins. Well done Year 2.
Easter Bonnet Parade. Some of the Easter Bonnets created by Year 2. What fantastic creations! Well done.
Year 2 - Scientific Enquirers.
Year 2 have been busy investigating again in Science. Today, Tuesday 27th March, we were finding out all about the importance of hygiene and washing our hands. Using hand cream and glitter we tested four different methods of washing our hands. We found out that the best way to clean our hands is by using warm water and soap as it removed all the germs (glitter). Lots of learning fun and lots of glitter everywhere. We definitely had fun with this Science experiment.
Well done Year 2. What super scientists you all are!
On Wednesday 21st March, we were very lucky to work with an award-winning author, Stuart Reid. Year 2 took part in a creative writing workshop where they engaged in lots of discussion and shared their thoughts and ideas about how to be a creative writer. Stuart inspired and motivated the children to believe they can achieve any goal, whilst learning all about his own inspiration. We really enjoyed having him in Year 2 and cannot wait to have another opportunity to work with him again in the future. We have definitely been inspired by the wonderful Stuart Reid.
In Science, we have been learning all about animals, including humans. We decided to investigate if we get faster at activities as we get older. It was the 5 oldest children (including Miss Thomason) versus the 5 youngest children. We chose to find out how many star jumps we could do in one minute and to see which children could do the most. We found out that the older children were the quickest and we think that we do get faster as we get older, however Miss Thomason wasn't very fast.
Year 2 were fantastic scientific enquirers. Well done.
March 7th 2018
We have been busy learning all about "Meerkat Mail" in Year 2. Here are some pictures of the children creating and acting out the story, with the help of their story map.
Fantastic effort Year 2, well done.
