On Friday March 23rd Helen Jones MP came to visit Year 5 to discuss the current issue of animals working in circuses. Helen talked to the children about her views on animal cruelty and how our vote can help to change the lives of these animals. Helen asked the children to write a letter to the Prime Minister regarding this issue and she promised to take them to the House of Parliament.
Year 5 have been looking at forces and as part of their work have investigated levers. To demonstrate the use of levers Year 5 created catapults whilst working with Mrs Bate and tested them to see how far and high they could send a split pea!
Year 5 were exploring the local area on Tuesday on a trip with a local Risley Ranger. They learnt about our area’s history from farm land in the 1800s to modern day. They explored factory land too and even got to hold a model bomb! It was fascinating and they are so thrilled to understand the legacy of Birchwood.
